School Assessment in Tonj South County

Volunteers from Educate The Children South Sudan (ETC) recently carried out a voluntary school assessment in Malual Muok, located in Tonj South County. The purpose was simple but important: understand the realities facing pupils and teachers so that future interventions respond to actual needs.

Assessments like this help ETC listen first, observe carefully and prioritise resources where they can make the strongest difference.

Key challenges identified

  • Shortage of classrooms.
  • Lack of proper toilets and sanitation facilities.
  • Insufficient exercise books and learning materials.

These conditions make learning more difficult and can contribute to lower attendance, discomfort and a higher risk of children dropping out.

When school environments are under-resourced, children carry the burden first. Improving basic learning conditions is one of the most direct ways to protect educational continuity.

What ETC is committed to doing

ETC South Sudan is committed to mobilising support and working with partners to improve these learning conditions. Identifying the problem is only the first step; the goal is to turn assessment findings into tangible improvements for the children of Tonj South County.

You can help move that work forward by supporting school projects or donating learning resources.
