Providing Clean Water to Schools

ETC recently launched a clean water initiative to help schools access safer and more reliable water sources. The project is designed to reduce the daily burden on children and teachers who often travel long distances in search of water.

Bringing water access closer to the school environment improves more than convenience. It supports health, saves time and creates conditions that make it easier for children to stay focused on learning.

Why clean water matters for education

When water is difficult to access, valuable school time is lost and basic hygiene becomes harder to maintain. Reliable access on or near school grounds supports stronger attendance and healthier classrooms.

  • Less time spent walking long distances for water.
  • Improved hygiene practices for children and staff.
  • More dignified conditions for girls and younger learners.
Practical community solutions often have the widest ripple effect. Safe water access can improve health, attendance and the overall learning environment at the same time.

A community-led approach

This initiative reflects ETC’s wider commitment to practical, community-led solutions that improve education, health and child wellbeing across South Sudan. Water access is not separate from learning outcomes; it is part of the foundation that helps schools function well.
